I know alot of people who like the screaming. Personally I hate screaming, but there are many metal bands I like. The fact is, it isn't noise at all, the guitar work as absolutely amazing in good Metal. But if you don't like it, you never will.

It's the same as with rap really. All the shitty rap is what is mainstream and what everyone hears and judges, but when you go a bit into the underground you'll see it's more diverse and interesting.

Same with metal. Can't say I'm a big fan of "general" metal. Metal bands have to sound a bit different and have some sort of spark for me to consider myself a fan. My favorite metal band is probably Nothingface. As lame as it sounds, I feel every bit of emotion in the vocals and understand the meaning of every lyric. I can feel the anger behind it and know I've been there in my life from time to time.

but yeah....metal doesn't involve ANY gold teeth or extravagant shoe collections, which are sung about in hit songs....so you must show some respect.

Metal is an aquired tatse. It's also an age thing. When I was younger I loved the speed and defiance of metal. As I got older, rhythm and melody became more pleasing. Thus, as Metalica physicaly matured and mellowed, I did too, and liked it all for different reasons. I can listen to old metal songs I once loved and have a sense of nostalgia....but I no longer like the song.

So far I got its an aquired taste. Whatever gets cats hyped and feelin how they want to feel. Screaming and gruntin may not be my thing but I like when funk dudes like james brown do it. Must just be the way the music makes me feel in that I dont like. Not to say I've never enjoyed any metal. Theres a specific kind I don't like. But its the same with Hip Hop for me too. I love sabbath. Got vinyls and the whole nine I nabbed from my folks. Every instrumental track on those records got to me. Its some of the best rock I've ever heard like you said. I don't listen to alot of rock though.

and to the metal question... metal is dope. i loved it for a long time but then i grew out of it cause it gets repetetive. you can only make a certain amount of combinations with so few instruments. i mean in HH you can sample anything and use the pc, etc for other effects. metal is limited by real instruments. you should check out God dethroned or Vader if u wanna hear some really fast and melodic metal.

I've gotta agree with Nympho here. I've been listening to metal for 18 years now, and while i spice it up with other genres here and there, I'm not gonna stop because I get old.

same here I been listening to metal about 20 years. When I was young and first got into metal it was around Master of Puppets and during the heyday of thrash. I used to be huge into the underground hardcore scene of the crustier Discharge influenced bands. At that same time the Sludge scene in the south was growing and it just put out songs that had that raw groove that i could do all my shit to. I cant really listen to Cannibal Corpse or any of the technical shit because it aint the vibe im captivated by at my age. I like my metal tuned low and played slow with southern rock undertones. Thing is some of the style of bands I used to think were corny I now enjoy such as Saint Vitus and Pentagram. When I was 15 I would have ignored Alabama Thunderpussy but these days it sounds better. I will admit tho I was always into a variety of punk metal and rap. I just need my shit to be rooted in the blues these days I guess and speed and cookie monster vocals are not my thing. Fuck I even listen to Drone music.

bottom line is if its got the Black Flag meets Black Sabbath influence then I can rock with it.
