I don't play my guitar as much as I used to, but this is what I use.

http://img188.imageshack.us/img188/5414/gotmentry01gn0.jpg

Gibson Les Paul with a tobacco sunburst finish. Looks just like this one but the inside of the sunburst is a little more golden in color and it has a curly maple top which gives it that "tiger-stripe" look. Kind of like this:

http://img178.imageshack.us/img178/4857/sunburstoy1.jpg

http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/2474/bassman1by9.jpg

I run it into a vintage Fender Bassman tube head.

http://img188.imageshack.us/img188/332/voxdo8.jpg

...and out of a vintage Vox Cabinet. The Bassman is for bass guitar, obviously, so when I let the tubes heat up and distort and play the Les Paul through it, it gives it an amazing, rumbling bottom end that shakes windows for blocks around. When I used to have my rehearsal space in Potrero Hill I'd go there once a week and play Sabbath, Stooges, and Black Flag riffs at top volume and shake the whole building with like 200 rehearsal spaces in it. Fuck I miss that place. Usually I don't need petals since it sounds so good on its own, but in the case I do want to use one, I usually use:

http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/4690/1977electroharmonixbigmuffpidg8.jpg

an Electro-Harmonix Big Muff

http://img178.imageshack.us/img178/1562/rat2ca1.jpg

A Pro CO Rat

http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/5553/superfuzzblackyz3.gif

...or a custom SuperFuzz petal I built in the machine shop of my old college.

It's all aboot the vintage equipment, it seriously sounds a million times better than the crappy new shit. Tubes also sound infinitely better, even the shittest tube amp sounds better than the best solid-state amp ever made. I've spent a good 15 years getting the best guitar tone possible, and you'd have to spend a 10,000 bucks to get a better sound than me at this point. Of course I'm more into the Gibson than Fender sound, so some people might disagree with me. It's a beautiful thing to crank the amp as high as it will go and play the opening chords to "Search & Destroy" while the whole building shakes around me.

I use the bass pedal for the guitars too, gives it a real buzzy distortion.

I put Duncan Distortion pickups in the cheap Ibanez. those pickups fucking ROCK.

edit - I hope to get a Les Paul & Fender P bass before too long.

as far as amps go, I just run through my JBL EONs that i have for my tables.

Line 6 Uber Metal pedal, which is quite possibly the gayest name for a stompbox ever. but it is the best pedal i've ever used. Although the black13 is supposed to be really good...anyway, everything is fairly inexpensive except for my jackson...my next purchase is going to be a marshall cab. then a couple back up axes...then im thinking about picking up a triple rectifier and a line 6 rack.

honestly, the black 13 is not that great. Its got 5 good sounds, but theres no customization. you can trim the highs & lows.

I have that same guitar. I hate it. The body is too heavy, but on the other hand it tunes down to A and B so eh.

I'm also have a Inbanez Soundgear something or other bass. I run the guitar through a "pretty good for it's size and price" Line 6 Spider 3 15 watt.
The bass goes through a Behringer UltraBass BX 1200.

I'm working on samples for a band now though, so bass and guitar playing hasn't been at the top of my priority list.

I got a Black Gibson Les Paul studio but i forget what year model, its got humbuckers and a soilent green sticker on it.
I got an ibanez bass thats black at the pawn shop a week ago
i got a metalzone pedal
digitech death metal
and a dod grunge

i dont have an amp but i been doing some vocals for all my boys in a Stoner/Doom metal band called Colossus. the guitar player and i go way back so after practice with them he lets me play his Gibson SG and i couldnt begin to explain to you the wall of amps he owns but I play through his 4 sunn o))) cabinets, sunn o))) head, hes got a Black(brand) cabinet with 12s and an orange cabinet too, a slew of vintage pedals an ampeg bass rig and bass.

that shit is so fucking loud. we played a gig in downtown little rock this weekend and motherfuckers were creaming there levis off this dudes gear. its all shit he got on E-bay, basically every piece of equiptment favored by stoner rock, sabbathy, sudge, drone bands. the few shows ive been in with them so far i wonder if people can even hear the rest of us and he doesnt even plug all of it up but still sits it up on the stage like "kiss my nuts, i own all this"

if you look at my avatar you can see me holding my Les Paul.

i love equiptment

yeah i seen them a few times live. lets see? i know i seen em with Choke in Shreveport about 8 or nine years ago the first time. I saw them with Hawg Jaw and Spickle.

I usually saw them either at Checkpoint Charlies or Dixie Tavern opening for other bands but i seen them at the Crowbar show in Monroe just hanging out.

I got a flyer of them, Rigd, Hawg Jaw, and Clearlight on my wall from Fri Dec 27th 2001 at Checkpoint Charlies

Years ago I downloaded a few MP3s from their Kill Whitey EP. Not exactly sure how I came about finding them though. Eventually I finally downloaded the whole EP, always loved it. I forgot about them for awhile until recently when I saw Relapse Records was gonna re-release Kill Whitey. I wish they would put out another release. Kill Whitey was their last and that was in 98. Metal Archives (http://www.metal-archives.com/band.php?id=3547) has them listed as active but with only 2 members currently. Oddly enough their old bass player "C.J. Pierce is now guitar player of the mallcore band Drowning Pool.".

2001 all black gibson sg special

fender roc pro 100 watt head
fender roc pro 4x12
a $10 channel switcher that has never broken on me unlike my 2 marshals

i also got a 30 watt vox reverb (don't remember the exact model, i never use it)

an applause/ovation acoustic electric guitar

a hohner acoustic guitar. this guitar rules. it was my first guitar and less than 150 bucks. i adjusted the action on it and now it's fucking perfect. amazing tone and sustain, plus custom action. i still play this one the most.

Gonna paint it black drop a licensed floyd in it, grab some of those new active seymour duncans and a single coil jazz pickup for it. and I want to put a killswitch on it in a bad way. Its just a Douglas. My other bass had numerous things that needed fixing so I figured I would just get a nice cheap bass for the time being til I could afford something else. So I thought I would give a 6 string a try. The low B is nice and LOUD. Overpowering really over the other strings.

Old Marshall's or Adam Vader cabs :naughty:

Be sure to tell us how the rig goes for you man. Its definitely got my interest peaked.

Over on Boing Boing Gadgets, our Joel reports on the latest in rock-n-roll gadgetry, the attitudinal Fucking Fucker all-tube guitar amp from Metasonix, which comes with many nihilistic humor touches: "The G-1000 consists of two totally independent amplifiers, with very different preamp sections. One channel is called the HAPPY channel. The other is called the ANGRY channel."
For they say about their latest all-tube guitar amp, the "Fucking Fucker":
There is nothing like the G-1000. Not even vaguely. It is arcane and radical. It is 100% vacuum tubes, from input to output. It contains 100% new-old-stock (NOS) tubes. Types never seen in guitar amps. The G-1000 consists of two totally independent amplifiers, with very different preamp sections. One channel is called the HAPPY channel. The other is called the ANGRY channel.
For damn good reason. One sucks your face, the other gnaws your foreskin off.

Its just a Douglas. My other bass had numerous things that needed fixing so I figured I would just get a nice cheap bass for the time being til I could afford something else. So I thought I would give a 6 string a try. The low B is nice and LOUD. Overpowering really over the other strings.

Fair play.

Ive played a number of 5 strings over the year and many of them had a low output from the low B. I was lucky with my ATK, thats had no problems.

My newest pieces of gear:

AKG wireless and Presonus compressor.

I think I'm gonna grab an old Marshall JCM 4x12 cab from one of my friends. I'm pretty psyched to get this rig set up.

I got the MT2 pedal on saturday, and I hate it. It sounds so thin and shitty compared to my bass overdrive pedal, which seems to be about the nastiest distortion I've ever used. I figured because it was a bass pedal, a nice guitar pedal would sound even better, but nothing that I've tried even comes close.

JCM series are very good cabs.

You're better off with a bass effects pedal for guitar, as they cover a wider frequency range, so you can get a fuller sounding OD.

Excellent choice on the JCM cab Max. I played through an old one that my boss owns last year and it blew me away.

The MT2 is pretty much bullshit if you are trying to use it as a main source of distortion. But I've read if you dial back the distortion and use it as more of an eq in conjunction with amp distortion you can produce some good things. This is what I assume Crowbar does. But that is just an assumption.

I didn't think of that. I'll try it tonight. thanks Jay.

does anyone here use any kind of interface for recording into their computer?

I'm thinking of ordering this Bherenger today, but I'd like to know what anyone else does before I pull the trigger on this.

I used to just mic my amp with a USB mic. So I'm of no help on this issue Mr Power.

If you do end up hitting up some recordings download something called ASIO4all. My friend used to rave about it for improving quality or something, I can't really remember the specifics without a quick google.

I have decided to return my new red ESP guitar as it had some issues, and stepped my game up to the higher end model. I should have one of these bad boys next week.

Figure Id go ahead and tell my rig.
'97 Fender deluxe american jazz
from there I run to an old 80's Boss fuzz (never did like Boss till this pedal) Then to an A/B/Y one channel runs to an old Earth module 440 that runs an Earth 118 cab and a traynor 215 cab. The other channel runs to a Morley Power Wah Fuzz from the late 70's then to a '75 Peavey Roadmaster (the 6550 200watt version) that runs a traynor 810 cab and a peavey 210 & 118 cab (im soon gonna change the peavey cab to an acoustic 610 from the '70's). I also have a '76 Peavey booster 800 that I dont use and an old Earth tube amp (I think its a G1000) that I use when Im only running 3 cabs. You can find some pictures somewhere that AWESOME J has posted.
