sometimes what looks like art to the common eye, is actually a repro made by villages of chinese painters......this is a very common thing, reproducing masterworks..

Original Hyper Fake Reproductions (http://kk.org/ct2/2007/12/original-hyper-fake-reproducti.php)

The fluid reality that spans the territory between the real and the fake, between simulations and the hyperreal, between the authentic and counterfeit, is the slippery territory where we all now live. This blurred continent is Philip K. Dick's universe, and the land of reality TV, and the home of pirates. There is something deeply disturbing about our inability to tell real from unreal (who can discern a fake diamond from real?), or to care about it. As the post-modernists maintain, sometimes the fake is so real, it becomes realer than real (hyperreal) and we come to prefer it.
I have a similar preference for fake paintings. I can prefer the fake versions of famous paintings, in part because they are re-visioned. In China there is an entire village given over to making money by fake paintings. These are not counterfeits intended to deceive. No one is fooled into thinking the Van Gogh painting they just bought is painted by Van Gogh. Rather the fake is like a reproduced poster of Van Gogh. But since it has been painted by hand, often with gusto and intelligence, it is much more interesting than a duplication of the original. It is an original reproduction. It is a hyperfake.
Re-painting masters is a venerable activity. Almost all art students are required and encouraged to do this. And most masters of old themselves re-painted their masters' art. What's new here is the scale of this re-work, which brings down its cost similar to machine reproduction.
http://kk.org/ct2/artsweatshop.jpg
According to the official web site (http://www.cndafen.com/) of this counterfeit painting city, called Da Fen Oil Painting Village in Buji, Longgang, Shenzhen, there are currently 622 galleries and over 5,000 artists at work there. While a lot of the paintings for sale are copies of masters, there are also copies of junk, and attempts at originality. But where else can you get a passable Rembrant for $50?

YouTube - Jaap Blonk performance - installation Messa di Voce

Ive actually played with something like this before, but it was all light based, no sound interactions...its actually a really neat experience, playing with shadows and light interactively..the one I used had rain, and a bunch of various filters...eventually I wold like to make a graffiti version of this, where you would grab projected light and bend and move shapes into letters...maybe one day...

Surely the topic isn't strictly limited to social commentary, and invoked responses limited to the sphere of emotions alone. You can describe individual perception, or express an intellectual idea symbolically, and still call it art. The subject matter needn't necessarily be concrete either, creating something which gives different insights to different types of observers is a very high form of art.

What a person considers art is decided by the extent of his own awareness of what is being said through any given medium. Show the picture of jesus with swastika eyes etc. to a christian and he won't call it art. Show it to alternatively schooled minds of a certain kind and they might. Take the 'begging bread' from the last post for example, show it to someone who's well fed and he'll see nothing in it. Show it to someone who can't afford bread and he'll wonder why the fuck you wasted the loaf of bread to make a beggars hand when you could have given the loaf and coin to him.

Image fluff itself can say a lot about the artists attitude towards his audience. Someone highly involved in the social element of art, who is happy to accept pointless imagery as art to be discussed, oblivious to the fact it is intentional garbage, will say of it what it's most appropriate to say among his peers and within his social paradigm (oooh buzzword!). Yet at the same time the peers of the artist himself could be in on the fact that his art, in his work and his actions, is commenting on these self-professed "art lovers".

Who's to say either way what is and what isn't art, or how big your bigger picture needs to be

shut the fuck up.

Are you telling me to shut the fuck up because you yourself have nothing to say, and it makes you feel small and unpweasant? Or are you just frustrated that you're too thick in the head to read or write something longer than 4 words? A combination? Maybe the train of thought was "this boy think he talkin bout art, i dunno what to say cus i aint sure bout shit, so i'ma jus lay it down for real cus he aint my kinda boyfriend NEWAYS"?

That's it, you were just trying for the little smartass vote, weren't you? "lol yo dis dude talkin some mad shit i aint heard, ima throw out this here witty ass response and dumbfound dis nigga, watch my homies say word, word. fucking word. ima do it... shut the fuck up. ahahahaha word life boys we rollin now. u see me do that shit? i told him str8"

Normally I wouldn't mind your half-dead little adventure at the keybowrd but you go and fuck up my serious hard-earned hardcore reputation too, with comments about "dead pets r us" and shit. I was coasting high on 10 rep and you fuck it up. Fucking gone. Have you even read this far? That rep is only going to get worse now that I've been thrown into a self-pitying outburst for all to see, you've fucking ruined it all. My bowrd career will never grow to fucking bloom because I've been simultaneously shown as wordy, have been "told, son", and broke down into tears all on the same page. Fuck you. I hope all your future meals contain trace amounts of teenage waste, to the extent you grow to worry about it and stop eating at the places you love to eat.
