The newspaper is for the mediocre.
I used to read the NY Times and realized that I got a completely distorted and simplified view of things. Newspapers are just notoriously bad sources of information.
The irony of the modern era: we live in the "information age" and yet are not any better informed.

I read the San Francisco Chronicle, New York Times, USA Today, and sometimes the Wall Street Journal, as well as the SF Weekly and Bay Guardian, every day at work. They are all quite different from one another.
I enjoy the local papers for local news, events, and updates on the Oakland A's and San Francisco 49ers. I enjoy the Arts and Culture, Book Reviews, and so on in the NY Times, although I find it to be quite pretentious and geared towards the type of people I would rather not associate with. USA Today is an excellent lowest common denominator. "McPaper" seems to cater to the sterotypical American that most Europeans hold in such high regard these days. There's also plenty of graphs and charts for those that can't bear to read.
I've been thinking about picking up a new gun lately, I'll have to borrow some of Carpe and Pu$$y's papers.

ha....mediocre....that is such a lame way to try to sound more intelligent than newspaper readers.
mediocre
adjective1. moderate to inferior in quality; "they improved the quality from mediocre to above average" 2. lacking exceptional quality or ability; "a novel of average merit"; "only a fair performance of the sonata"; "in fair health"; "the caliber of the students has gone from mediocre to above average"; "the performance was middling at best" [syn: average (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/average)] 3. poor to middling in quality; "there have been good and mediocre and bad artists"
so i am below average? Is that compared to an american's intelligence or a europeans intelligence? because as far as europeans go i may be "mediocre" but if it's compared to you lot then i am fucking einstein! (i am pretty sure einstein read the papers just like i do)

ha....mediocre....that is such a lame way to try to sound more intelligent than newspaper readers.
And please explain how that is lame?
Mediocre is a normal English word that is on a 6th grade reading level. The fact that you are so aghast at the word is because you are just plain stupid.
so i am below average? Is that compared to an american's intelligence or a europeans intelligence? because as far as europeans go i may be "mediocre" but if it's compared to you lot then i am fucking einstein! (i am pretty sure einstein read the papers just like i do)
You are below average for the typical Cro-Magnon, no matter what country you are compared with.
And newspapers are for the mediocre, because they're designed to make the news more palatable to the largest group of readers possible. That's why everything covered in the news, whether it is frivolous or of some moment, is a putrid mix of "information" and "entertainment". Infotainment is for the mediocre, go back to watching Montell.

dont put words into my mouth fool. I find it amusing that you seem to tarnish a lot of people with a really sub-standard description. I was in no way "agahst" at the word more confused as to why you use such a word.
You are below average for the typical Cro-Magnon, no matter what country you are compared with.

I use English words.
You speak your own creole with summat, nahmean and over the top punctuation.
That is Henry Kissinger in my sig, former Secretary of State to Richard Nixon. You're trying to tell me you don't know who he is? You dis America's involvement in world affairs, yet do not know Kissinger? He is a celebrity in the U.S.

there you go again. Putting words in my page. I wasnt saying i dont know who the people you have in your sig are, i was saying what relevence do they have on this type of forum. Then i went on to say you use em to make up for summat or are trying to impress.
I also "dis" my own country's stance on world affairs too talley and many others.
You see, that is why I think you're stupid
and this is why you are ignorrant.
I find it incredulous that you think that someone not knowing one of the US'S now celebrity ex politician's would mean they were stupid or un-informed on world affairs. There is a whole world out there you know, knowing your very short history is possibly one of the least important you know.

The word "mediocre" fits the context perfectly. It applies to the average herd animal.
i didnt ask what language you used talleyrand. If you put your paper marking glasss on you can see i said the "type" of words you use.
Right, and the "type" of words I'm using are English words from a 6th grade reading level.
What "type" do you speak of? You are speaking in generalities and never lay out a concrete point.
there you go again. Putting words in my page. I wasnt saying i dont know who the people you have in your sig are, i was saying what relevence do they have on this type of forum.
What type of forum is it?
It's a forum where people can say whatever they want and have whatever sig they want. What is your point?
Then i went on to say you use em to make up for summat or are trying to impress.
Impress?
Impress implies effort. Making a sig and avatar takes literally 3 minutes. What the fuck are you talking about?
I like history, I make history sigs. People like rap, they make rap sigs and so on and so on. That's the type of forum we have, understand?
No,
I also "dis" my own country's stance on world affairs too talley and many others.
So?
and this is why you are ignorrant.
I find it incredulous that you think that someone not knowing one of the US'S now celebrity ex politician's would mean they were stupid or un-informed on world affairs. There is a whole world out there you know, knowing your very short history is possibly one of the least important you know.
Another reason why you're ignorant is because you totally miss points.
You like to dis the U.S's foreign policy and its historic involvement in other countries. Kissinger is one of the top 5 or 6 people in US history to have been a part of those involvements. The fact that you seem to not know who he is or why you should know him is ridiculous.
There is a whole world out there you know, knowing your very short history is possibly one of the least important you know.
hahahaha
Yeah, the history of the most powerful nation on earth is one of the "least important". I would like to know how you determine "importance".
In my view, all history is important equally no matter what the civilization is. All civilizations have built upon others and have imported ideas from everyehere. We're all connected.
However, since you have bashed America, I would assume that you take American history seriously and would have a grasp on some basics. But now I see that, not only do you not know anything about the country you criticize, but you don't even take it seriously enough to care.
Looks like you're the one with a "high tier" stance. A typical arrogant, well-fed European.
If I were to criticise England's role in the Hundred Years' War or India or South Africa, I would be sure to know what I was talking about. Perhaps I might do some research, get some facts and form an opinion. It's the least I can do. I'm not so arrogant as to criticize things I haven't taken an effort to know about.
of course you are......and you seem to use that privalige to it's highest degree..........i hate mediocre techers.......wasting the yoof's brains!

What statement? Herd Animal? Mediocre? I've already explained the use of those terms and why they are correct. Please show me where I misused these terms in the English language, please.

"America bashing" is not a term that needs to be "coined".
And as for "stonewalling discussion", let us take a look at that thread again and this one and describe how I am "stonewalling" anything. I argue my points with facts that speak directly to the point. It is quite the opposite of stonewalling.
What you have done is America bashing, just like it's America bashing when I speak ill of America. My point was never that you are "America bashing" but that you America bashing for the sake of America bashing. In other words, your posts on America are thick and general and whenever I try to get behind them to see your reasoning, there is nothing there.
You like to dis the U.S's foreign policy and its historic involvement in other countries. Kissinger is one of the top 5 or 6 people in US history to have been a part of those involvements. The fact that you seem to not know who he is or why you should know him is ridiculous.
I said you seem to not know who he is, not that you seem to not know what he looks like, as you can see above. That means, I don't think you know his importance or role in American history.
Which brings me to the next excerpt from me that you quoted:
No, nobody is saying that you have to know what he looks like. But I am saying that you should have a familiarity with who he is and his actions in the past if you are going to make sweeping judgments about American foreign policy in the last 50 years.so you were presuming!

mediocre
adjective1. moderate to inferior in quality; "they improved the quality from mediocre to above average" 2. lacking exceptional quality or ability; "a novel of average merit"; "only a fair performance of the sonata"; "in fair health"; "the caliber of the students has gone from mediocre to above average"; "the performance was middling at best" [syn: average (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/average)] 3. poor to middling in quality; "there have been good and mediocre and bad artists"
and now i shall show you your ORIGINAL quote!
Newspapers are for the mediocre.
you have till this time tomorrow to find your grammatical error!
Talleyrand
01-03-2007, 01:50 AM
hahaha
Mediocre
Newpapers are for the mediocre.
Newpapers are for those of poor to middling qualities.
Vinnie Paz? Oh, he's mediocre
George Bush? Oh, he's mediocre
Newspapers? Oh, they're for the mediocre.
Or, I could have said: newspapers are for mediocre people. However, that would be sloppy English. "Newspapers are for the mediocre" is proper English. Are you hung up on the fact that mediocre is an adjective? lol
How about:
a) Newspapers are for the smart
b) Newspapers are for the many
c) Newspapers are for the tired
d) Newspapers are for the confused
A king says: "My country is for the loyal"
Or
"With silent lips. 'Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!' "
- From The New Colossus by
Emma Lazarus.
That is the poem that is engraved on the base of the Statue of Liberty.
All of these sentences are English sentences. The king does not need to say "My kingdom is for loyal people" when he can smoothly and quickly say "My kingdom is for the loyal". The word acts as a noun and the meaning is implied.
Seriously man, learn to speak English. If you read a book every now and then, not just a newspaper, perhaps you will come across other sentences that seem horribly ingrammatical to you. Then you can move up in the world and take Shakespeare, Byron and Kipling to task over their misuse of English.
You can keep this argument going, but going through pains to point out how the English sentence "Newspapers are for the mediocre" is wrong will just keep reinforcing the point that that sentence makes.
