no! if you're a car company and you want to survive, sell cars that people want to buy! american cars are ugly, sometimes unreliable, and they often guzzle gas.

bail them out with partial ownership of the companies to be awarded to tax payers so they can have some say in what sort of vehicles are made ie. ones that arent completely reliant on petroleum. and the usage of the 'bailout' money should be reported to the public with completely transparency

The way governments just take people's money and do whatever they want with it, then spin yarns about the reasons why it's important, to make people think they agree with it, is fucking cool and funny. God I wish I was some government guy who got a chunk of change for handing taxpayer money over to some private business or another, I wouldn't be able to keep a straight face though, it's just too big a joke to hold it all in and people would catch on and I'd be burned at the fucking stake and/or steak.
